Oh I hear ya on the daddy messyiness!! I buy nice clothes for my girls and if I know they are going to get messy, then they pick an outfit from their junky clothes drawers. Daddy never does this and they always come home with their clothes ruined. I'm all for getting messy, but take their good clothes off first will ya!! I should have stocks in Oxiclean!!

I am the oldest of 4 kids (3 younger brothers). I remember very clearly one summer an older lady came up to my mom, who was trying to deal with 3 sticky, dirty boys, and saying "Don't worry about it, the amount of dirt is directly proportional to the amount of fun!"

It stuck with me and now with my two girls I can be a lot more relaxed about it. Don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE fan of oxiclean... but in the end they are just clothes, right?

Hmmmm, I think I am a little of both. In the house, clean if you please, unless I have the art supplies out. Outside, I expect a bit of rolling around in the dirt or sand. It bathes off. I try to make sure that I don't put anything too nice on the kids if they're likely to get filthy. Actually my first time getting really upset with one of my kids over something like that was today, I picked up some nice GAP black skinny cropped trousers that she was wearing for church and she'd somehow managed to demolish the knee without me noticing. I didn't ream her out or anything, but I kind of wailed (a little) and asked her to please be respectful of her Sunday clothes... those were some nice pants! D: And at the same time, when she was getting ready to go to church with me and my hubby pointed out she had a filthy knee, I shrugged and pointed out that the rest of her was clean and if people notice her filthy knee then shame on them for not paying attention to the service ;)

I think that kids laugh more when they are getting dirty, and I'm a sucker for a laughing child. Dirty clothes are replaceable, the memory of a laughing child isn't.

Yep, hop in the puddle with them! It's what we do around here. Laundry can be washed and kids can be scrubbed but building the "Mommy memory" takes moments of messy from time to time. I like that when someone asks my kids about me they start off with something like "She dances in the store to good songs and jumps in mud puddles with me"... because they remember the fun and smile.

one day i took my boyfriends daughter out on a rainy day. We both put on our gumboots and went puddle hunting.
We both tucked in our pants into our boots and then tucked into puddle splashing.

we were both absolutely SOAKED.

"hi honey can you make sure she doesn't get too wet? I got dinner on the go"

*looks up at child who is grinning from ear to ear with mud in between her teeth*

"sure hunni, no problem."

As we entered the house and told her to take off her boots and make sure daddy noticed that her white socks were clean and white.

"See daddy! My feet are totally dry 'cuz I was wearing my boots"

I just love how dirty my son can get in 10 seconds. Maybe easy for me to say as there isn't a lot mud around here lately. Lovely pictures!

Dirt happens!

We had a few strangely warm days last week too and you better believe we took advantage of them! I let the girls take off their coats and got death stares from the moms who had suited up their kids like they were going on an Arctic tour. So they had to deal with "but those girls not wearing their coats....wahhh..." not my problem. My girls are hot-blooded, what can I say.

Noelle LOVES to jump in puddles so we come home with splattered pants/faces/bodies, etc. As long as they're not EATING the dirt, I'm cool.

I also vote for ravelry. It's been so fun to have somewhere to get chatty for the last few months. If it ain't broke.

I think adult mallory cowl KAL is happening...or a hat?

with regards to the KAL pics my vote is for Ravelry because yes you are right you need a blog for the linky party thing and, if you have more than 200 pics you need to buy a membership for Flickr... Rav is free and it gives you ability to chit chat :)

It's been so warm here, as well! My kids pulled out short-sleeves just because they could. Oh, and I totally let them get dirty... but my mom buys most of their clothes from thrift stores so I don't mind much if things get stained. They are those dirty farm kids, lol. (Who bathe regularly)

Love the pics of your girls. I'm learning to knit, thanks to you, only I'm loom knitting with the Martha Stewart stuff. Not sure if that's good or bad. I'm apparently not very patient, because my first 2 projects ended up too small, LOL. I usually prefer immediate gratification. My biggest beef with knitting patterns that say "beginner" or "easy" is that they have acronyms and I have NO clue what they mean. Maybe I need to look on YouTube for some tutorials before I give up.

PS. We have warm weather this year, too. Kinda weird that it's in the 60's during the afternoon here. I want just one snow day with the kids. Please?

OH DUDE, dirt gets me so twitchy. Cannot deal. My husband is the one taking pictures of the kids liberally coated in blueberry yogurt and I am all "Noooooooo!!!! I CAN'T NOT LOOK AT IT!"

Ahem.

May I also say that I am incredibly jealous that it is warm enough (even if just for a day) to only require sweatshirts and too small hats? So far today Sam and I spent half an hour getting dressed in snowpants and coats and hats and mittens and boots and then 15 minutes chipping ice off the driveway. Yay winter.
