crafts are for sharing!
i couldn't resist sharing a wee bit of exciting news with you all! i've been eagerly anticipating the september issue of the fab mag "canadian living". the lovely austen (senior editor, crafts & food) wrote to me and a few crafty pals a few months ago and asked us what our fave journals are to use. i was thrilled to be asked and let me tell you it sure was exciting to see my name in print in this iconic canadian magazine. i grew up reading this canadian staple - crafts, cooking, beauty...it's got it all.
i'm going to frame it! yes...i am that kind of dork...lol! the article included the awesome jane richmond (knitting designer), holly broadland (president, vancouver modern quilt guild), tanis lavallee (yarn dyer, tanis fiber arts), amy singer (of knitty), tina anson mine (executive editor, food & books) & austen gilliland too! it was so fun to see what journals everyone chose and i thought it was pretty cool that tanis and i both have a soft spot for eco-jot journals! you can read more about my affection for eco-jot in this post here.
i find it so interesting to find out how other creatives work, their processes and what accessories/tools they use to aid the process. i have an addiction to journals and have way too many. in fact i have so many that i write in that i lose drawings/notes because i can't remember which journal i wrote/sketched them in! oops! i never leave the house without one. they are in my purse, knitting bags, kids bags, the car, beside the bed...everywhere...lol. but you know what's funny? sometimes i still don't have one when i need it. do you guys know what i mean? you carry them around all the time and then the one time i'm without my supply - bam! - i need one and it's not there. maybe that's why i keep buying them???? sounds like a good excuse to buy some more right...wink wink!
so....spill the beans....what's your favorite journal to use? do you have a fave brand of notebook/journal that you love? share! i'd love to see/hear what you are all using <3
thank you so much austen & canadian living for making one of this canadian gal's dreams come true! you can find more canadian living here:

I like to buy any sort of journal or sketch book that is on sale at Half Price books or Michael's but I'm usually too timid to mess up the pretty white pages. That will change soon hopefully. Congrats on being in print!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Anna! It was exciting!
DeleteI also adore the journals at Michael's and in fact have like 10 from their $1.50 bin! Just picked up a new one the other week with a hardcover :) I can't. stop. buying. them!
Hooray! I hadn't seen this yet so I went down to my mailbox and there was my copy with our names side by side. How fun! Canadian Living was the magazine that got me started in quilting so it's very special to see my name in print on its pages.
ReplyDeleteYay!!!!!!!!!!! So excited that we are both in it together! yahoo!!!! Go Canada go! LOl!
DeleteWoo hoo!!! Way to be a star, Shannon! I'll have to find a copy....and I'll tell my mom to look for you!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite journal is a moleskine - I finally splurged and LOVE mine! Come to think of it, I need a new one...in red.
I don't have a moleskine yet....I need to treat myself I think :P
DeleteI love/hate back-to-school season. I can't help buying fresh new notebooks and day planners and pens...despite having an entire BOX of new notebooks in my office. Ridiculous!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I have those ikea cups in pink :) So pretty!
those ikea cups rock hey! love them! I hardly use them cause there is no Ikea where i live and I don't want to run out...lol.
Deleteuh oh..i have to do school shopping still...must stay away from all the journals and notebooks..lol!
Congratulations, Shannon!!! How very exciting. Personally I like a plain old spiral thick notebook - 7X5 size. I also love using moleskin notebooks especially the plain brown ones.
ReplyDeleteThanks Heather :)
DeleteAwesome!! I'm so excited for that! I am totally obsessed with pretty journals and notepads. I want to buy every single one I see.
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine your collection Disney! You have awesome style & taste :)
DeleteCongrats Shannon, I would also totally frame that page!! I am addidtedto notebooks. I have a whole stack of Cavallini. I've used them for journals for years, and now I use them to jot down ideas or chronicle my projects. I have a weakness for pretty paper...looks like I am not alone!
ReplyDeleteI keep buying journals, and my kids keep finding them and ripping them to shreds. Maybe I need to find a metal covered one with a lock. Lol. The brown moleskin ones are nice because the cover begs to be doodled. When I used to take notes in church it was in one of those, and the cover got doodled to death.
ReplyDeleteI would absolutely frame it - what a lovely feature :)
ReplyDeleteI adore Moleskines too, but I'll use anything with squared paper - for knitting, crochet and quilting patterns, I just can't get things in the right place without it. And the paper has to be really white, as I like to write in pencil, and it doesn't always show up otherwise. And yes, I'm a little bit fussy ;D
yeah!!! So exciting!
ReplyDeleteThanks again for participating, Shannon! I'm always happy to be able to feature great Canadian crafters. :)
