they are predicting snow here this weekend...ohhhhhh.....i'm excited, nervous and dreading it all at the same time.  don't get me wrong, i don't hate snow.  there is a time and place for snow for me.  i mostly just dislike snow.  i dislike grey, freezing, dreary, gloomy, icy, slushy and miserable snow that shuts the whole city down so i'm stuck inside for days on end but i adore fluffy, beautiful, blue sky, snowmen and snowball fights with hot chocolate kind of snow.  rarely do i get to experience the latter.

i grew up in a small town in northern british columbia where a good junk of our year was spent buried in snow.  burying your house out, your car out and yourself out of sidewalks and more.  sometimes you would get so much snow the windows would be covered.  as a child it was awesome...as a teenager and an adult i dreaded it and really just longed for sunshine and blue skies.  i don't ski (too clumsy) and am just not an outside snow kinda gal.  i'm the one who'd rather be at the lodge in front of the fire, sipping a hot toddy, knitting  whilst watching everyone else freeze.  but hey...to each their own right?

i do hope it snows...just a tad...for the kids.  they are super excited about it and mackenzie is def not her momma when it comes to snow.  she wants to ski and is very athletic.  i like to watch from our condo window as they frolic with the hubs in our parking lot making snow angels..yes, parking lot...we have no yard and when you live in a city in a condo that's what you get when it snows...lol.  i love the idea that i can go down and play for a few mins and then be the mommy who has marshmallows, warm blankets and hugs waiting upstairs to hear all their stories and to see the red cheeks and happiness in their eyes.  on the rare occasion though...i do make a mean snowball and will never, ever turn down sledding!  i love me a steep hill and a flying saucer!

due to the way our city handles snow i'm expecting the roads to close down and the sidewalks to be uncleared and us not being able to drive.  i'm so hoping it doesn't get this bad or the snow at least waits till sunday so i can go to knit night...lol and so my wee one can go to her soccer game...brrrrrr.....just thinking about all this snow has me wrapping a blanket around me and pulling my knitting out.  stay tuned next week...the adult mallory pattern is here and i LOVE it! can't wait for you to see it!

are any of you a gemini like me? do you only love half of snow...muahaha?  oh man..sometimes it's so hard to be a gemini...i can never make up my mind <3.  what are you all up to this weekend? whatcha working on?  whatcha making? whatcha baking?  whatcha planning?  come chat...let's use the heck out of the new commenting system.  looking forward to hearing from you lovely ladies and i'm wishing you all a warm, lovely, happy, hot chocolate or skinny mocha, cuddle filled weekend! xoxoxo

  1. I've been waiting for your weekend wishes, a highlight every Friday - for real. Fargerike just had a knit wall paper give-away, which i unfortunately didn't win.

This weekend I'm getting ready for my girls' 7th birthday next Friday - Cowgirl theme, with a real horse, gold digging, lasso throwing, shooting contest.... I have to sew their cowgirl outfits, make the hobo sticks for fourteen girls, I'll be busy...

    And knit my hats...

  3. I think I love the idea of snow more than real snow. It's all fun and games till you are TRAPPED.

My weekend wish is that my husband wasn't going to be gone until Saturday night and that I could shake this anxious thing I have going on right now. My tendency is to freak out about something really hard until I have something new to freak about. Right now it's dental health since I have a cavity. I'm feeling overwhelmed with trying to feed my kids well and care for their teeth because I'm scared they will wind up with mouths full of rotten bones. No... Im not at all dramatic.

Do you ever hit a point where you feel so disorganized and out of control that you feel like you might go crazy? Is it just me?

My other weekend wish is to watch some more downton abbey and drink some tea. I broke my new French press so I'm taking it as a sign that tea is on the menu right now. You know...because of my teeth. I'm just loads of fun today! Must be because of Friday the 13th

    1. Awww, I feel for you. I know what that is like and no you are not crazy. I get the same way and when I do get like that I use this mantra "don't react before the act". It helps to keep me from making stress from where there is none.

My house is in dissaray too and I too hate that feeling of being out of control. I need one safe zone..an area of the house that isn't a giant mess so I can clear my mind..lol. Why oh why is cleaning just never done? I hope your tea drinking and downton abbey help cheer ya up. big hugs!

  4. I'm drinking a skinny mocha from Starbucks right now! Currently debating if I should do a little thrifting today...I'm in need of a big pot for making laundry detergent & dying fabric. Heard a couple places in town are having sales...plus I'll have to look for some vintage sheets ;)

I hope it doesn't snow until after knit night! Sometimes I wish everything shuts down when it snows here but that hasn't happened in years. We've been getting a smattering of snow off and on since thanksgiving but nothing of consequence.

    2. Just got back and found an umbrella stroller for the boy for $2.50! I'm totally planning to redo the fabric & adding pockets and such. It'll be perfect for soccer this spring. I also snagged an orange handbag for a buck, plus a fabric shower curtain and a fabric scarf...no sheets :( or a pot big enough but still a good day.

  5. I live high up in the hills of East Sooke so like you I am dreading the expected snow this weekend. This is only my second winter here and snow means we park at the bottom and walk the long insanely steep switchback lane to and from the house...takes about 15-20 mins to walk up it...yikes!! (But the view is amazing!!!) Anywho...thought I'd say HI, I stumbled upon your blog a few days ago. I'm a quilter/longarm quilter/teacher and tatter and moved to the island last year from the prairies. I do have a blog but must admit that I've been a bad blogger and don't post very much. Oops...must start blogging again! Guess I've been too busy enjoying this beautiful island we call home. Pleased to meet you!
    Cheers!!

    1. Hi Jeni! So nice to meet another island gal! How lucky are you to have such a lovely studio space! Gorgeous! I hope the snow stays small for you and I both. Where do you teach your quilting?
Hope to see you around online here :)

  6. You know we're snow sistas! LOL. Supervisory version preferred. I like it when there is snow outside in the winter because it's brighter and looks nicer than grey-on-grey... I particularly like it while sipping a cappuccino on my couch while the sugar cookies I'm baking with Nicole make my house smell nummers ;) That's today! Pulled a Mental Health Day from preschool and we're baking!
I lived in Smithers, BC for my toddler years, did I ever mention that? I barely remember, obviously, since I moved back when I was 3... but I do remember playing tea party on the train with my mom and teddies when we moved back to the Peg!

    2. I'm pretty offended that you never invited me to any birthday parties or anything now. ;) I'm doing pretty good! I'm paranoid as heck though because I keep having dreams and people keep making jokes about twins and it makes me snort-eyeroll like a startled horse. Starting to get really antsy for the whole ultrasound dealie lol. I am pretty sure it's just my own anxiety though, hubby joked about it early on and I was like BUT THATS TERRIFYING and there we go. Not that twins isn't a fun thought normally but 3 under 2 isn't even cute sounding, lol.

    3. Although I should note I do have a friend with two 1 year olds! Not twins! LOL! Her boy is in the beginning of the year and her little girl was born at 27 weeks, very preemie, and now they are both one and its pretty funny.

    4. Muahahaha...you crack me up.

I had weird dreams that Harper was going to be a twin. I once had a reading done (long, long time ago) and they said I was going to have twins..has freaked me out since..lol. I'm excited to see what and how many you are having :P

  8. I will be watching my oldest son at a Curling Bonspiel (tournament) and happily knitting away on a hat or two <3 If I'm lucky, I'll get to ski a little with the rest of the kiddo's for a little while.

I love the snow and the winter. Maybe it's because I grew up in England, but I love dark and dreary days, especially foggy days or when a good snow storm is going on outside (but not good enough to stop everyone from being at work and school) and I'm at home alone. I light the fire, make some hot cocoa and knit away with Sir Winston (my cockapoo) sat at my feet. The fact that winter lasts six months in Wisconsin is probably one of the things I love about it. I know, I'm a little sick and twisted, but think of all the good use I get out of the knits I make. There's a reason Elizabeth Zimmerman chose to live here!!!!
