we had some technical difficulties around here yesterday. or i should say my laptop did...and then some pictures i needed got lost in the abyss called "recycle bin" by accident so the hubs got to pull a superhero act and redeem himself for deleting them by rescuing them and also my laptop. i made him watch the bachelor for half an hour as punishment...lol. poor guy. in the meantime while i work away on the posts that were supposed to be ready here's some pics of the hubs and the kids latest adventure. please note that these were taken on an oddly warm day and that's why the kids aren't in winter parkas...lol, and yes, mackenzie's hat is too small for her head. it's a baby hat that she refuses to NOT wear anymore. ah the joys of kids :P

time for laundry...hahaha. yep, they always come home flush faced, laughing and very dirty. that's what outings with daddy are for. i have never been able to let that go....i always envision the cleaning and laundry while they are doing it and can never refrain myself from stopping them...i know, i know, it's good for them but that's just something that mommies are for i think..lol. someone has to maintain balance right?
hopefully my laptop will behave today and i'll be back tomorrow with the announcement of our newest knit along!!! woot woot! anyone have any guesses on what it's gonna be? oh and quick question...do you guys prefer to add pics to the flickr group and/or ravelry group or would you like for me to set up one of those link party things? my only worry is that i think you need a blog to enter the link party as it links to your post. how do you guys feel about that? i guess those who don't blog could enter their pics to flickr/ravelry instead? ok, so excited! can't wait!
so ladies are you a "try to keep the kids somewhat clean" or a "let them get as dirty as they want" kinda mommy? got any tips you can share about how us sticklers for staying clean can let go a little bit? i'd love to hear them! happy tuesday!

OH DUDE, dirt gets me so twitchy. Cannot deal. My husband is the one taking pictures of the kids liberally coated in blueberry yogurt and I am all "Noooooooo!!!! I CAN'T NOT LOOK AT IT!"
ReplyDeleteAhem.
May I also say that I am incredibly jealous that it is warm enough (even if just for a day) to only require sweatshirts and too small hats? So far today Sam and I spent half an hour getting dressed in snowpants and coats and hats and mittens and boots and then 15 minutes chipping ice off the driveway. Yay winter.
Christy
I was probably one of the "let them get as dirty as they want" moms so my kids were always looking shabby. If you don't have the balance like you do, that's how it ends up.
ReplyDeletei can't believe how green it is there! it's been very warm here for months now and the snow is all long gone, but even the above freezing temps haven't tricked anything into growing yet.
ReplyDeleteStrangely, R doesn't like to get dirty. And I'm perfectly okay with that! LOL! I have a feeling J will be a completely different story, though.
ReplyDeleteI love the pic of Harper walking up the path towards Mack.
Love the pics of your girls. I'm learning to knit, thanks to you, only I'm loom knitting with the Martha Stewart stuff. Not sure if that's good or bad. I'm apparently not very patient, because my first 2 projects ended up too small, LOL. I usually prefer immediate gratification. My biggest beef with knitting patterns that say "beginner" or "easy" is that they have acronyms and I have NO clue what they mean. Maybe I need to look on YouTube for some tutorials before I give up.
ReplyDeletePS. We have warm weather this year, too. Kinda weird that it's in the 60's during the afternoon here. I want just one snow day with the kids. Please?
doesn't really matter how I link up...
ReplyDeleteI'm the as-long-as-they-left-the-house-clean-I-don't-care kind of mom
It's been so warm here, as well! My kids pulled out short-sleeves just because they could. Oh, and I totally let them get dirty... but my mom buys most of their clothes from thrift stores so I don't mind much if things get stained. They are those dirty farm kids, lol. (Who bathe regularly)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos and kids {as usual, my dear}!
ReplyDeletei'm guessing legwarmers,or some pretty fingerless gloves or oh, maybe something for the tots :)
ReplyDeletewith regards to the KAL pics my vote is for Ravelry because yes you are right you need a blog for the linky party thing and, if you have more than 200 pics you need to buy a membership for Flickr... Rav is free and it gives you ability to chit chat :)
Dirt happens!
ReplyDeleteWe had a few strangely warm days last week too and you better believe we took advantage of them! I let the girls take off their coats and got death stares from the moms who had suited up their kids like they were going on an Arctic tour. So they had to deal with "but those girls not wearing their coats....wahhh..." not my problem. My girls are hot-blooded, what can I say.
Noelle LOVES to jump in puddles so we come home with splattered pants/faces/bodies, etc. As long as they're not EATING the dirt, I'm cool.
I also vote for ravelry. It's been so fun to have somewhere to get chatty for the last few months. If it ain't broke.
I think adult mallory cowl KAL is happening...or a hat?
love the last pic - such a great capture of the moment! we (my little one and I) went for a walk yesterday - it was so mild, I kindof miss it today!
ReplyDeleteThat last pic is awesome! your girls are so stinkin cute :)
ReplyDeleteAnother vote for Ravelry; I hope I can join in the next KAL! (By that I mean, I hope I don't have to buy more yarn b/c I am currently banned from purchasing more, haha!)
I just love how dirty my son can get in 10 seconds. Maybe easy for me to say as there isn't a lot mud around here lately. Lovely pictures!
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to the next KAL. I'm still into cowls but it might be time for a change? Or not!
oh I also vote for Ravelry!!!
ReplyDeleteone day i took my boyfriends daughter out on a rainy day. We both put on our gumboots and went puddle hunting.
ReplyDeleteWe both tucked in our pants into our boots and then tucked into puddle splashing.
we were both absolutely SOAKED.
*ring ring*
-->Boyfriend on called ID
"hi honey can you make sure she doesn't get too wet? I got dinner on the go"
*looks up at child who is grinning from ear to ear with mud in between her teeth*
"sure hunni, no problem."
As we entered the house and told her to take off her boots and make sure daddy noticed that her white socks were clean and white.
"See daddy! My feet are totally dry 'cuz I was wearing my boots"
*insert silly grins*
Oh, your girlies are so pretty in pink!! Cuties. And your hubs takes some good photos!
ReplyDeleteI try to let go and them get dirty but it's still hard - 6 kids in, though, and I'm starting to weaken.
I like link-ups but that's only because I forget to check the ravelry boards....
Yep, hop in the puddle with them! It's what we do around here. Laundry can be washed and kids can be scrubbed but building the "Mommy memory" takes moments of messy from time to time. I like that when someone asks my kids about me they start off with something like "She dances in the store to good songs and jumps in mud puddles with me"... because they remember the fun and smile.
ReplyDeleteI think that kids laugh more when they are getting dirty, and I'm a sucker for a laughing child. Dirty clothes are replaceable, the memory of a laughing child isn't.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm, I think I am a little of both. In the house, clean if you please, unless I have the art supplies out. Outside, I expect a bit of rolling around in the dirt or sand. It bathes off. I try to make sure that I don't put anything too nice on the kids if they're likely to get filthy. Actually my first time getting really upset with one of my kids over something like that was today, I picked up some nice GAP black skinny cropped trousers that she was wearing for church and she'd somehow managed to demolish the knee without me noticing. I didn't ream her out or anything, but I kind of wailed (a little) and asked her to please be respectful of her Sunday clothes... those were some nice pants! D: And at the same time, when she was getting ready to go to church with me and my hubby pointed out she had a filthy knee, I shrugged and pointed out that the rest of her was clean and if people notice her filthy knee then shame on them for not paying attention to the service ;)
ReplyDeleteOH I'll take photos of you're cute kids any day :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I am a try to keep them clean, yet fails miserably!
Beautiful shots!
I am the oldest of 4 kids (3 younger brothers). I remember very clearly one summer an older lady came up to my mom, who was trying to deal with 3 sticky, dirty boys, and saying "Don't worry about it, the amount of dirt is directly proportional to the amount of fun!"
ReplyDeleteIt stuck with me and now with my two girls I can be a lot more relaxed about it. Don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE fan of oxiclean... but in the end they are just clothes, right?
Oh I hear ya on the daddy messyiness!! I buy nice clothes for my girls and if I know they are going to get messy, then they pick an outfit from their junky clothes drawers. Daddy never does this and they always come home with their clothes ruined. I'm all for getting messy, but take their good clothes off first will ya!! I should have stocks in Oxiclean!!
ReplyDeleteoh and isn't this winter lovely!! It finally started dropping below zero at night but the sun all day is a great trade off!!
ReplyDeleteI am definitely of the 'Don't step/jump/roll in that - you'll get dirty' tribe. I am not a neat freak, but all I can think about is the laundry!!
ReplyDeleteI am glad I am not alone...
