Momma's got a boo boo...

momma's got a boo boo.  for those of you who follow my facebook page you may  have heard me ranting about the foolishness of hitting my silly head not once...but twice with my trunk door on friday afternoon.  seriously...i am a clumsy dork.  don't ask me how i did it twice, it's humiliating...i know..but i blame it all on my car and not on myself.  needless to say i hit myself really hard.  so hard that by later that night i was not a happy camper.

i finally inspected my head and was freaked out to find some cuts/scratches from the trunk door.  damn you car!  don't you know i have sheat to do!  how dare you bonk me really hard twice and expect me to feel dandy as candy!  my car...whose name is vroom vroom veronica by the way (you know how i love to name things) and i are NOT on speaking terms.  i fear our relationship will be scarred forever.  how could she leave me standing stunned staring at my hand over and over checking for blood in the grocery store parking lot?  friggin car..lol...i give her gas and drive her...i mean i know i could clean  her more but honestly, what more can a car ask for?

so by saturday i was a gong show mess.  dizzy, nauseous and a crying fool.  i missed my knit night, screwed up my hubs exam studying schedule and pretty much slept away the day.  before you ask i went to the doctor at the walk in clinic who quickly dismissed me telling me i hit my head and to go rest.  old fart.  just for the record i detest old, grumpy rude doctors.  especially when one is a crying, throbbing head of a mess.  what ever happened to compassion buddy?

anyways, sorry for this weird ol' rant of a post but long story short...i will be absent (sort of) today and maybe tomorrow while i heal my bonked head and attempt to take care of my kidlets until my eyes focus better and i stop feeling so gosh darn off balance.  i don't dare sew for fear of messing up my projects big time so i've been knitting up a storm to try to cheer myself up. i agree with my pal sarah that i think i need a helmet and also yes amy, i think this shirt would be fitting as well :P

*updated to add (09/27/2011): i went to my family doctor today and found out i did indeed get a concussion and now have post concussion syndrome. i'm feeling pretty crappy so taking a few more days off. thanks for all your comments and well wishes.  you guys are so sweet :)

i hope you all had a wonderful weekend that was injury free and filled with fun and crafting galore!  are you clumsy like me too?  i'd love to feel less like a dork so if you have a funny, clumsy story to share please do.  it would make me feel sooooo much better :)  i promise the coffee's on and there's a warm, cozy seat here for ya...come chat!

  1. I hope your head feels better soon. Rest! I am always hitting my head, shins or toes. To make you laugh - my husband and I lived in Chicago. We took the train together every morning. One wintry morning, we climbed out of the car and started walking to the platform. He went on one side of the car, I went on the other. WHAM! I walk straight into the platform station sign. This sign was huge, and I ran right into it. I was sure there was blood or at least my nose was broken. People along the platform took a collective gasp of air when the sound of my face bonking off the sign resonated throughout the station. That hurt like you wouldn't believe. That night when we came back to the car, I looked at the huge sign, and there was an outline of my face on the back of it.

  3. I've been away from reading all kinds of blogs and am just now getting back to bloggy friends. I also detest old doctors...well, I'm not the biggest fan of miserable old people regardless of their occupations.

And if you want a klutzy friend to commiserate with, I am your girl. I have been forbidden from using cutlery around the holidays. I always hack fingers on my left hand. Two Christmases ago, I sliced into my left thumb so badly, I need stitches. And then sliced into my left index finger one week later.

And I've also been hit by the trunk of our minivan. But that incident I totally blame on my hubby for hitting the close button and not warning me as I ducked in to grab something out of the trunk.

Take care and hope you get plenty of time to relax and heal.

  4. I hope you feel better! Sounds like a concussion to me...I have had many of those. If it does not get better by Wed though, I would definitely check with another dr or nurse.
You will eventually forgive vroom vroom Veronica. Eleanor (my bike) and I had a love hate relationship for a while last year. Chain came off twice in two days, and my chain kept slipping, once while crossing the street and during morning traffic and caused me to scrape my entire shin on my pedal and caused drivers to freak out and ask if I was ok. We were not on talking terms either, but I forgave her and felt bad for saying bad things to her after a short time.

  5. I hope you feel better! My car's name is Caleb... (as in Caleb Toth, was IMHO the best player on the Calgary Roughnecks... I was going through a lacrosse phase...)

  6. @Proud Mama When I was in high school, there was a girl who was so engaged in conversation with someone else, she walked right into a huge column in the auditorium entry. There was a mark left behind by her lipstick for weeks.

  7. As someone who walks into doors, doorways, falls off pavements and trips over my own feet on a regular basis, you have all the sympathy I can muster. I thought doctors were meant to take bonks on the head seriously!

Hope you sleep well and sleep it off

  8. Oh my goodness, I hope that you are feeling better. I'm big on falling down. It is the running joke in my family that I am a big clutz. My sister went to this big art school and was having a showing of her short film at a theater. It was a festival so the movies just kept running all afternoon and night which ment that people just came and went as the pleased but that the lights stayed down. So of course my whole family goes walking quietly in during a movie and I fall down in the theater and make a big scene. Does my family come to help me? Oh no they just laugh hysterically.
Another time I slipped on something wet (ewww) in a bathroom and slid right under and into the next stall which was occupied! The list goes on and on but I will stop there.
Only one of my children looks like me so I know that she got an extra dose of my genes and the poor thing falls all the time! Sorry Honey!

  9. Oh, I can commiserate! This Saturday in the craft store parking lot I somehow had a collision between my car door and my neck, just below the jaw. I hurt so bad, and I sat stunned, convinced I must have internal bleeding from a severed artery or something. It still hurts like crazy, but I'm still alive so that's good. Yesterday I asked my friend if it looked bruised, just because I would like an external sign of how much it hurts. She asked me if I had a hickey and was trying to pass it off as a bruise. When I explained what happened she asked if I was trying to decapitate myself. Not intentionally, but it felt like it!

Also, when I was in high school my sister gave me a really bad concussion by shutting a car door on my head (window glass hit head as I was getting out of the car). Ouch!

  10. You're not alone. I can't tell you how many times a day I badly injure myself: get my toes caught in the coffee table feet, shut a hand in a drawer or door, hit myself with the door/drawer, run over my own toes with the stroller, fall down or up the stairs...etc. Burn myself... oy yeah that happens way too often. It's comical. But it hurts! Hope you have a less eventful week!

  11. Awww, so sorry girl - that stinks. If I lived closer I would totally take your kids off your hands. Are you sure there's nothing more serious going on? If it doesn't feel better soon, I would get a second opinion.

If it makes you feel better, I am the queen of falling down the stairs.

    Feel better!!

  12. Oh I'm so sorry! I am sure I have a TON of stupid stories, but what your title reminds me of is my daughter's latest craze (she's two).

My mom recently had a seriously torn retina, and I spent two weeks taking her back and forth to surgical and check up appointments. Its all over with, but now when I say we are going to Grammy's, Olivia says "Grammy boo-boo eye?" That is her new name.... Grammy boo-boo eye. Classic.

  13. Ouch! I sure hope your noggin feels better soon. I can certainly relate to clumsiness related injuries. 3 major concussions in my life! Last year when I was visiting the audiologist (for major concussion related hearing loss - oops!) I told her how they all happened (fell off the couch as a kid, fell off a horse, fell off a bike) she responded by telling me that I should wear a helmet. I said that I had been for the horse and the bike and she giggled and replied "No...I meant all the time!"

  14. Oh you poor thing! I hope you feel better quickly. I am often a klutz but the one most of my friends love to bring up is when we were out at happy hour (this is pre kids, of course) and sitting at an outside table, chatting, visiting, enjoying drinks w/ our fellas. And somehow the way I had my legs crossed, when I went to shift my weight in my seat, I just fell over. Everyone even saw it coming but didn't help b/c they assumed I'd steady myself. But no. Fell right out of a chair via momentum of my own creation. Like, fell on my face, kerplunk. Couldn't even blame being tipsy as I certainly was not. Weird.

  15. Shannon, this sounds like a nasty concussion. Veronica is a very, very, bad car! I really hope you feel better soon. I've also had a few run-ins with some doctors like that... very unplesant.0

  16. Hope you feel better soon. Sounds awful. I hope this isn't too intrusive, but do you take vitamin D? Some of your blog posts remind me of when my youngest was smaller a couple of years ago. Sleep lacking and drained, but not quite realizing I was in the toilet until I slipped and hurt myself and found myself crying in the Dr's office for a follow up. 3 days after a visit to the naturopath, with vitamin D in hand, I couldn't believe the difference.
Hope this isn't too presumptuous... just passing on something that helped me immensely.

  19. I think many of these posts are making me feel less alone in my general clumsiness, but so far no one has ever had to have a tetanus shot after a visit to a yarn shop. Knitting has always felt a little "dangerous" since then.

    Feel better!

  21. Oh honey, you are not alone. I am the proud owner of a cracked skull. Yep, it's true. I ran into a corner and cracked my forehead. Shows up on xray and everything. I've hit the same spot on my forehead three times in my life... the most recent just last month and let me tell you - it'll knock you for a loop.

So no my dear, you are far from alone... at the very least we can bumble through life together... bonking into everything we meet... lol. I hope your head heals soon and if I were you, I'd let the walk in manager know about that doctor... I had one fired for such behavior and misdiagnosis but that's another story.

  22. So sorry to hear about your bonked bean. You can try to laugh it off..... but it is not funny. Please try and take care.

  23. I know I am not suppose to laugh at other people's pain, but these stories are way too funny. I am normally not clumsy, but two and half months ago, I fell down stairs twice in one weekend. I was washing the porch floor on Sat, wetted first, then turned around to get the bucket, and slipped. My body went flying, and landed with my lower back against the wooden stairs. I couldn't even get up. The next day, I walked down the carpeted stairs with my baby girl, didn't carry her, since my back hurts like hell. When I turned around checking on her, I slipped again. This time, my left big toe stopped me from going down further, but it was so painful, I was sure I broke it. I went to the doctor's office the next day, he thought my back was fine, but did x-ray on my toe. I am so grateful that he didn't order X-ray on my lower back, because a week later, I found out I was pregnant! Now I blame it on the hormones!

Take some rest, and be careful next time.

  28. That sounds awful! I soooo hope your noggin feels better soon! I've been a clumsy mess since having baby #3 in March. Don't know if it is just being in a hurry all the time or what??? This summer my right shin was a constantly black & blue. First, I tripped and scrapped the thunder out of it while trying to walk while riding in our RV. Second, I tripped on the ottoman of the glider rocker in my son's room and hit the floor. Both of these while holding said baby! Fortunately, in my clumsiness I managed to save her from harm :) Third, I whacked it good on the dishwasher door I left down. All of this in a 2 week time span! It was so sore and looked awful. And it was only 200 degrees here in Texas so you bet I was still sportin' my shorts.....nice! Hope that makes you feel better that you aren't alone for sure!

  30. Concussion (my second)
I was walking into the preschool I work in and said "Be careful, it is very slippery" to a student who was racing across the lot... as soon as the words were out of my mouth... BAM I went down. I do not think I blacked out but was embarrassed when the student's dad slloowwwwly made his way to me to help me up.
I went to work all day, with a headache (I thought "Duh, I hit my head, of course it hurts).
After work I drove to physical therapy for my recently healed broken elbow (I am talented). While I was warming up on the arm bike, I started to feel dizzy and woozy. However, stubborn as I am, I continued with my HOUR LONG physical therapy session.
After the session was over, I started to drive home and was feeling very nauseous, as I drove by the hospital, I thought, "Eh, why not" and pulled into the parking lot and went into the ER to be checked out.
After a neck brace, a bunch of scans, and getting lost and left in hallways by medical personnel, I was discharged but not allowed to drive (a friend/coworker had come to meet me). I was given a note to excuse me from work for the rest of the week (3 days!) to recover from my "Traumatic Brain Injury" and whiplash, which I tried to convince my coworker not to mention to the boss so I could go to work (I am a dedicated Kinder teacher!!! lol).
Once home, I decided to head the medical advice and called my boss. Good thing, because the next two days were the worst! My whole body hurt, nausea, dizziness, MISERABLE!
And I wondered why one of my kinders would give me a bucket on the playground to put on my head "for safety".
    It is a dangerous world!
