pretty side french braid from lovemaegan.com
i have to admit that i have been a wee bit obsessed by braids and online hair tutorials lately. i usually have a shorter hair style and have taken the leap to grow it back out for a while and it's finally getting long enough that a few of these may be an option. also, the hairdresser in me just LOVES this stuff (for those of you who don't know i was hairdresser in my non bloggy life)!

i've been drooling over romantic images of lovely girls with even lovelier braids and thought i would share some of my faves from pinterest (you can find my pinterest boards here). i also have a few pals from knit night that are in need of some snazzy hair styles - one as a bridesmaid (jane) and one as the bride (mandy) and i bombarded them on saturday night with hair tutorial talk instead of knitting chat..lol and they so nicely asked me to post about it.

all hair tutorials above from one of my fave blogs "a cup of jo"
whether it's a bun, side braid, milk maiden style, fish braid, french braid, loose braid, messy braid...i love them all! now i just need to get my hair to grow faster or my 4 year old to let me practice on hers :p

* cheri from the crafty blog "i am momma hear me roar" had a hair week the other week that was filled with lots of hair goodness!i loved her waterfall braid tutorial.
* you can find a ton, and i mean a ton of romantic hairstyles & braids over on "hair romance". you can even pick up an e-book filled with them! check out one of her free hair tutorial videos here!
* i'm absolutely swooning over the new website "the beauty department" featuring the gorgeous lauren conrad (i admit i have a girl crush on her & yes, i was addicted to the hills). check out this pretty pinup girl tutorial.
* the uber stylish "from me to you" has this messy (in a good way) hair tute.

* just in case you missed it above all the hair tutorials on "a cup of jo" are equally as fabulous as the next and i love all of them.
* and the newest one going around the blogoshpere like hot cakes that i couldn't resist featuring is the "how to get vintage style curls without heat". i first spotted this on grosgrain. i'm going to try it out this week (for those of you have seen it doesn't this girl have the best accent ever? she's so lovely).
* and last but not least here's a handy little braid chart i spotted on pinterest as well.
so get creative with your summer hair! hope you guys had some hairtastic fun! what's your fave hair tutorial online? do you have a braid hair pic you love? what's your fave way to style your hair in the summer that's not your average ponytail? let's talk hair girls!

Hey, I was/am a hairstylist too! Although after teaching for a year at Paul Mitchell I just do hair in my basement for friends and family.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the pictures. I have been enjoying my newly grown out hair and have been doing the side braid thing you seem to like a lot too. Braiding it from the side all the way around and then pinning in a messy bun by my ear. It's fun having hair to play with!
I love that tutorial on no-heat curls! I just walk around with my damp hair twirled up in the headband during the day. She does have a great accent!
ReplyDeleteNow I have the buttercup song in my head! Thanks alot! =) Love the braids... need to play with more styles, my hair is finally getting some length (shoulder) to it so I can do half braids!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for my hair to grow out!
ReplyDeleteShannon you are my hero! After our chat I tried the headband/no heat curls Do the next day and could not figure it out, lol, thank you so much for posting the video!!! These hairstyles are sooo awesome, now instead of having no idea I'll have to struggle with too many great ideas and which to chose! You really are a life saver!!!
ReplyDeleteI have been lured by all the pretty styles I see on Pinterest. I spent several hours one day just reading hair blogs and how-tos. Thanks for more inspiration
ReplyDeleteThis is great, thanks Shannon!! I contacted the salon after we chatted at Knit Night - I'll be meeting with Miss Amazing soon ;)
ReplyDeleteGlad you ladies like the post!
ReplyDelete@Janerichmond - Most welcome my dear! You are so gorgeous that I'm sure any of those hairstyles would look beeeauuuutiful on you :)
Proud mama - it's hard to not spend hours as there are so many great online hair tutes now!
GynnaB - You're welcome :P I couldn't help myself.
MN2NM - Glad I'm not the only one. She's adorable!
@mandy Ohhh...yippee! When do you go? I'm going the first week in August. I can't wait to see what Ashley is going to come up with for ya :)
ReplyDeleteP.s. Anyone in Victoria looking for an AMAZING hairdresser please go see Ashley at LAB salon. She's the best and trust me on that. I've had my hair butchered more than once in town & I'm very picky.

ReplyDelete...I agree, I love her accent and she is totally adorable!
Totally trying that with my hair tomorrow!
ReplyDeletelove all of these! now to squirrel some time away to try some!
ReplyDeletei love braids! i remember as a kid my sister and cousins would sit down one behind each other - there was 7 of us - and braid each others' hair.
ReplyDeletehowever this summer i decided to cut my very curly locks (typical mommy style), so no braids for me :( maybe next year my darling little girl will have hair long enough to braid.
For the shorter haired girls, that video tutorial for the curls? I tried it on my slightly-grown-out Victoria Beckham Angled Bob today and it worked, needed a bit of adjusting in the back afterwards but it would work great for chin length or longer hair! :)
ReplyDeleteI had several of those same pics "pinned" also. My hair is too short, but oh I can dream, right?
ReplyDeleteI just came across your blog and i love it! LOVE braids...
ReplyDeleteI love this round up and thank you for including me in it!
ReplyDeleteChristina @ Hair Romance xx
Thanks for all the tutorial links! I love trying out new styles in my long curly hair. My typical summer hairstyle is a french braid. If I have a little extra time, I do a loose french braid down each side of my head and then braid the tails together. Love braids!
