our weekend was busy, busy. the hubs worked all day saturday so the girls and i were solo and it was not a good parenting day for me. i have to admit my poor boobs were getting me down with the lack of good bras in my house. my tops weren't fitting right and i was just having an all around, i need a shower, i look like crappola day.

saturday did get better though as i got to go out to a knit night that night. now seriously, i had the best time. i know...it's a knit night right? well it was prolly one of the most fun nights i've had in a very loooooong time. a few of us crafty ladies got together at a local cafe that is open late for a knit night. best part is they have live music play at night and the bands that night were great! we had great conversation, lots of laughs, knit a lot, ripped out a lot of our work due to the laughing and chatting and just had fun. the old wood table was covered with wool, needles, projects and tea and i sadly forgot my camera. hopefully i can get some shots this sat if i make it out. i actually called my hubby to say i was staying out later than planned. i was living on the knitting wild side! i even ripped out a huge triangle from the hat i was making due to clapping to the band with my knitting sticks...eeek! not fun. after i rescued those stitches (along with a friend's help-thanks rebecca) i then messed up my pattern again and had to rip out 6 rows!!!!!!!! what a goof. lesson learned. bring an easier knitting project to knit group.

here's a shot of the adorable knitting bag i've been using that one of my longest readers - buffy made for me and sent as a nice little gift. this has been my go to knitting bag and came out with me to knit night as well. she's got a pattern folks and pretty soon she'll be sharing it with us all! isn't that fabric so adorable?? the inside is little birds..i just adore it! thanks buffy!!!!!!!! luv ya!

what was the best part of my weekend? i got some mommy alone time. knitting night on sat, exercise class with the Slovakian she devil on sunday morning and a trip to the mall that afternoon to hunt down a bra. guess what......i found one! i'm trying to remain optimistic. i have now been in about 6 stores and found 1 bra....sad....but 1 is better than none. i found it at la senza. that is usually where i buy all my bras, for some reason they fit me the best and have what i'm looking for. i had to dig through all the drawers this trip though and tried on about 45 bras no lie. the poor sales girl. all in all i think i counted that i tried on, on average, about 30 bras per shop, so around 180bras!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that is insane. insane.

i also scooped and found a great pair of jeans for $19.99 and a top for $10!!!! wowsa! after ordering my dream jeans from the gap and having to return them and then going in the store to only find myself looking like someone wearing "mom jeans" in their skinny styles i was feeling defeated that i was just going to have no luck finding what i was looking for. but poof...just when i had given up the jeans found me when i wasn't looking for them and for a way cheaper price.
how was your weekend? did you get any knitting or sewing done? any shopping successes or failures happen to you recently? let's chat! i've got some tea on, coffee's brewing and mmmmm...i've even got some homemade muffins that are nice and yummy.(thanks for the recipe amy) i know...baking again..what is up with me? trust me, i have no idea either but i'm going to enjoy it while it lasts.

I love the way you write about your weekend. I had a very productive sewing weekend. I'm working on posting more of my final projects on my blog. I made a diaper pouch, super hero cape, modified 2 shirts for the boys and made a bib and a doll dress!! I also made my prefold diapers into liners and did some great bargin shoping at the thrift store. I am so pumped, but alas the house looks horrible so I need to get cleaning this week...

ReplyDeleteAw I like this post:) love hearing about your days and weekends:)
ReplyDeleteVery good work going to the park mommy:)
I don't get lonely at the park but find it hard with two lol.... But I think Idyn is good now... He seems to just stay by one slide these days... :) I too eillbhave more park outings as it gets sunny!!!
oh how i wish i could take the boys to the park. oliver is the same age as harper and he has never yet been on a swing. or a walk, really. so sad.
ReplyDeletethere is still so much snow here in winnipeg and the temps are only barely above freezing. i die of jealousy when i see your pics of beautiful green grass...
I have a love/ hate relationship with playgrounds. Every once in a while, I meet s super awesome mom and the time just breezes on by and Theo LOVES playground so I'm kind of a meanie if I don't take him there.
ReplyDeleteAs for bras.... GAH! KILL ME NOW. I have one and I think I'd rather go get a passport that shop for a bra :( CONGRATS on getting one.
And yay for crafty nights and days ;)
Yay for a good-mommy-weekend! I know what you mean about parks, I'm not actually a huge fan of going to one by myself either. If it's just you and the one kiddo it is often just you... sitting by yourself... staring at your kid... yay. lol. I do love going with a friend though, I've been known to pack up a thermos of coffee and some snackies to meet my SIL at the park!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait til we're warm as you guys have right now. Eeee. I went for a walk with the girls today, it's around zero-ish so it's fairly nice for walking if you ignore the lakes... uh, i mean puddles... but I'm super duper looking forwards to putting the swings back on our play structure in our back yard, putting Olivia in the baby swing, and letting the girls have fun outside!
Hubby came home early on Sat. and stayed with E and Noelle and I got to go to toddler time at the library then traipsed around the neighborhood for a bit with her. It was a lot of fun to have some Mommy-Noelle time... I've also been cooking and baking up a storm which is actually how I relax...I love my shiny KitchenAid...we are now stocked with brownies, cookies and fresh braided bread...num.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've bought anything for myself lately except a lipgloss...I think I'm due for a purchase. there is a set of vintage necklaces I've been coveting for while on Etsy...
180 bras??? I go in, take a look at the bra, tell myself that one looks like it might fit and buy it...
ReplyDeleteI'm sewing up a storm here - pants and tops for my girls and knitting a pair of leg warmers for one of them- think I'll have to do a second pair for the other twin. Tone
i haven't worn a regular pair of jeans since i was pregnant the first time....sigh - thos were the days.... Reitmans makes it to easy to buy non-maternity maternity pants with their comfort fit jeans they are the #1 mom jeans (i'm such a loser) - what not to wear here i come!
ReplyDeleteOh. My. Goodness. Seriously, 180 bras…man do I feel like a bra shopping wimp! Actually, I haven't gone yet but it is in the near future.
ReplyDeleteThe knitting bag…again you're welcome! Anytime, really. I didn't think it was possible to make the bag look any better but again your photography amazes me.
I actually love going to the park with my kids, alone. I bring a cooler of food, a blanket and toys for the baby and my camping chair. The kids run around and play while I knit in the sun…however it has been too rainy around here to go to the park.

Your posts are always so enjoyable to read. I had to laugh about your shopping adventures. I too go into a store, try on 50 items and come out with one (maybe). I tend to shop alone these days (when I can get my husband to watch the baby) just because it takes me forever!! I always feel so guilty if I bring someone else and they are waiting on me in the dressing room. ha ha I hate trying clothes on my post baby body. boo
ReplyDeleteMy weekend was eventful. No sewing unfortunatly,..but a quick last minute trip up to Canada to see my brother in law who was in town only for 2 days. Got home at 2am that morning! Yesterday was a double coffee kind of day, to say the least. But I had to give myself a pat on the back for being a supportive wife and traveling with a toddler and losing sleep,..just so my husband could visit his brother. :) Hope you have an amazing week! Thanks for always sharing your motherhood adventures.
I totally would have given up before 180! I only have two preoper maternity bras, the rest are that stretchy sleep? bra style. I miss underwire! I want lift and seperation! Yay for the jeans, good jeans can make you happy. I had a happy day at the op-shop last week with an impromptu $1 sale. I got more tops for winter I can pull my boobs out of :) waiting for it to cool down though, still all days in 30's...

ReplyDeleteoh, your the one that make that beautiful bag! wanna be my friend too:) once im back on my sewing feet i will have to check out the tutorial...but i think i will use mine for other things.
I had such fun at the knit night! looking forward to many more!!! and yes, i have to agree with everyone else, 180 bras?! holy. did you buy more than one of that kind? I got my nursing bras at thyme... they seemed to work for me... but then after that it was just wherever they were cheap.. (not the best idea, sigh.. but i have no patience for bra shopping)
ReplyDeleteoxoxoxo!
I love finding a good bra. when I found one I bought it in 4 colors!
ReplyDeleteI totally know the jeans thing too. I tried on like 15 jeans a couple weeks ago at value village just to find a pair that fit good and didn't look like I was trying to be young and cool.
Sounds like you had a nice fun weekend! I need to try taking my kids to the park! If only I could find a good one near me. hmm. must hunt for park! I know my kids would be happy if I did that!
This lovely post made me smile. So many great things.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy you had a knitty night - made me realize I need some knitty (local) friends.
And I'm especially happy you had bra and jean shopping success - both of those shopping trips make me want to cry. You tried on 180 bras - I applaud you - but not with my knitting needles.
Glad you all had good weekends too!
ReplyDeleteAnd to answer your questions..yes..I tried on a ton of bras. This past weekend and the one before. When I did find the one I liked I wanted to buy it in every color but they were all out of my size in any other color and had none left. bah! oh well. Still hunting for a few more hooter holders :P
I'm also glad I'm not the only one who doesn't always love going to the park with friends. My kids aren't old enough to just play by themselves at most parks..so no bench sitting for me...yet. I don't mind going with a friend but it's still not my fave activity I have to admit.
Back to the bras...don't you wish we could all have a fairy bramother who magically found us each the perfect bra to perk the girls right up?
love the bag your friend made. what pattern did she use or does she sell them. love your blog. lindagerig@sbcglobal.net
ReplyDeleteOh, I love your posts about your city... I miss it! I'm moving back when I finish nursing school in August, and I'm SO looking forward to a proper Island winter again! Your mention of being lonely when you moved there is true. It's such a friendly city... yet surprisingly hard to find really good friends. They're there, but it takes a long time.
ReplyDeleteMy weekends and weekdays are a jumble of attempting to avoid homework by reading inspiring blogs, sneaking in a bit of knitting on my new socks, actually working on homework, and planning out my new website and blog. And then, panicing because I've procrastinated too long! Ah, the
