room with a new view
do you ever get sick of staring at the same view day after day while breastfeeding? we sit day after day, hour after hour breastfeeding and looking at the same darn view. i know, i could change rooms, but i like to nest and i have my fave spot on the couch, my fave end so to speak and i nest there. i've got my drinks (water, coffee), my remotes, snack, nail clippers (for the baby), my laptop & table it's on(piled high with dayplanners and sketchbooks/ring binders), my knitting and of course - the "view".
i have a basic circle mirror from ikea hanging above my mantle that was just missing some va va voom. i didn't know what the heck to do with it, but it's been driving me batty. i was going to take it down but for some reason just couldn't bring myself to do it.
remember this wreath? well it was the size of a grocery story pizza box. just right for a holiday decoration but it just didn't seem to have enough oomph once all the decorations were down. it looked too lonesome where i had it. again, i found myself torn...wanting to keep it up but unable to find the right home for it. then inspiration hit me. why not do the same thing on the mirror?
so i took the leaves off the cardboard and simply attached them to the mirror instead. ohhh, sticky tape i do love you. i had to cut out more leaves but it was just a fun project to do with mackenzie. we cut and stuck our pretty white paper leaves to our boring mirror and shazam a new view. gotta love that. now while breastfeeding i feel inspired just that little bit more to step outside of my comfort zone and try something new. even repurposed items can be repurposed. i so love that.
so get inspired ladies. don't settle for the same ol' boring view. mix it up. move something around, turn something into something else. just make "your nest" a happy place. where do you "nest"? what's your fave view while breastfeeding? take a pic, leave a comment - let's chat!

this is such a cute mirror! The most important thing to me while breastfeeding is the chair I am sitting in, want it to be as comfortable as possible. I recently refurbished and recovered a rocking chair I found and can't wait to use it with the new baby coming :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome! That looks so WOW now!
ReplyDeleteI have two nursing spots. One of them is curled up on one of my couches, and the other is my bed. Olivia is a tall little monkey - in 6 months clothes by 3 months and some of the shirts even look a bit shortish yet - so it's often easier to nurse her lying down if she's in a kicky mood. Otherwise if I am against the arm of the couch or something she kicks herself right off the boob! LOL. Frustrating - and messy! - for both of us.
I don't have a baby, but I do have my favorite spot. I have decided to leave the futon permanently down, so it's more like a little bed, and I get one corner while I can spread out my craft stuff, books, etc on the rest of the futon. On the other side is a low table then I have a big Goodwill coffee table. And of course LOTS of pillows!
ReplyDeleteI love your mirror, what a great idea. I thought it was porcelain at first.
Cute idea!! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI love the cute shot of half your face;) looovveee it!!
ReplyDeleteStay warm and cozy today!!! Trav should be home by nine...yep a half day...and I likely am not working.. I will TRY MY HARDEST to call;)
Love you!!!
pretty! love it!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. I rearranged the furniture so that I could see outside from my nursing corner of the couch, as well as the tv of course. And my laptop etc. We have a gorgeous rocker in my daughter's room for me to nurse her in, but I only use it at night when I'm half asleep because I get so bored!
ReplyDeleteFantastic idea! And it turned out so lovely. . .
ReplyDeleteI had the same problem with babies #1, #2 and #3. This time around, though, in an effort to find a quiet space, I started breastfeeding in baby #4's room. She has a couch next to a window and now when I need a new view, I open the shade and watch what is going on outside. I can tell you who got a new appliance this week and who is having new hardwood floors installed :)
ReplyDeleteummm I kind of LOVE the look of your place. I need to see in in person, though :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliments guys. Glad you all liked it. I wasn't sure about it at first but now that it's been up for a few days I love it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your views too :)
we are STILL in the process of unpacking and settling in, but I totally have my spot on the couch, and next to me on the long part of the couch it's a hot mess... camera, cords journal, books, camera bag, external hard drive and most importantly my laptop. I really need to organise my nest, I spend a lot of time here breast feeding and holding the wee man while he sleeps as an excuse to read blogs (and because I do love so much holding a sleeping baby).
ReplyDeleteAnd of course it's the only spot for the baby nail clippers... got to get em while they sleep.
Hi - I have written about you here: http://blessbytone.blogspot.com/2011/02/where-i-find-inspiration.html - I hope you don't mind - it's just about where I find my inspiration, so only good words about you. Tone
ReplyDeleteOOOH, I remember those days! During my first's 2 months I watched every Curb your Enthusiasm ever made! Good for you to spruce it up a bit. That's easier than changing your prime nesting spot.
