weekend wishes

to find some new pyrex thrifting this weekend...

to thank all of you for helping to cure me of being cutting challenged (for 1 quilt at least)...

to get my yarn and embroidery floss organized...

to make a new cover for my machine...

that i can hold this true in my own life right now...

to get some work done cleaning up the "mommyhood"...

to get some time to start on some cozy leg warmers for me...

to not be scared that valentine's day stuff is already everywhere...

to get finished reading the huge stack of mags i've been hoarding for months...

and to not scare children & adults with my first time in a bathing suit in a very, very long time.

the word bathing suit instills fear into my heart. the girls are both starting swimming lessons up this weekend and yes, that means i have to go out in public in a bathing suit - eeek! i'm scared. i'm gonna break all the pool rules and run across the deck and get in that darn water as fast as possible. i know, i know, i shouldn't care, but i'm a woman and i do. here's to hoping my girls (aka boobs) fit in my swimsuit in the first place.

we're hoping the endless rain is going to stop this week and break out in some sunshine so we can go frolick along the water and get some pretty pics. i'm looking forward to watching the golden globes on sunday (love seeing the dresses & hair) and i'm also planning on going thrifting this weekend. send your pyrex and vintage sheet vibes my way...it's been a while since i've had a chance to go scour the shops. i hope that means i'm gonna find something good..i've got that feeling.

i'm happy to say that i spent an hour cutting yesterday and it was so much more enjoyable! i actually got the last yard or so relatively straight..haha, and some of them i cut with one slice! so proud of myself. i owe it to all of your wonderful tips. who knew that i was doing it all wrong. i never thought there were would be so much involved with using a rotary cutter properly, but honestly there is. even the process of how to cut it was much easier. i was doing it the hardest way possible. i have a whole renewed faith to being able to quilt again.

it's been one of those weeks where my to do list is way bigger than my time. i have so many fun projects and goals for this blog and just not enough time in my day to get them all going. so frustrating. i think i'm organized but i'm also starting to think i need to revamp my process and schedule to be a tad more efficient for 2011 or i'm never going to get a good chunk of it accomplished and i tell ya, that in itself would make me cry.

so on that topic what do you do to keep your goals and projects organized? do you use a planner? calendar? notebook? what kind of schedule do you use to blog/sew/craft? let's share and of course.....here's wishing you all have a wonderful, relaxing, sleep filled, laughter full weekend.

  1. I'm still trying to discover what works best for me, but www.thimble.ca mentioned TeuxDeux yesterday, which I quite like. (http://teuxdeux.com)

  2. You are OBSESSED with Pyrex;)
Good luck finding some fun stuff:) hope your weekend is simply lovely:)
Also good luck scheduling:) you will find a way that works! My only tip, don't OVER schedule! Maybe don't plan by hrs of the day and expect spare times to be the same daily... Instead maybe a priority to do list and work when time allows... It won't be the same everyday and you will have to write things off... But that's life with kids:):) enjoy these early years with the girls too they will pass too quickly...

  3. @AnaThanks for the tip Ana. This could come in very handy. I'm just finding it hard to put all my ideas & thoughts easily into one place. This could work for my task schedule for sure.

  4. Krystal - Don't worry, I'm not crazy enough to think I could schedule hourly. I'm talking more about how moms fit in the things they enjoy other than playing with the kiddos. I think it makes us better mothers and role models when we are happy as well. It's important for us to find time in our busy "mom days" to schedule time to be an individual as well as a mother.
    p.s. Yes, I am obsessed with pyrex and that's a good thing..hahaha :P

  6. Okay so when I am not completely out of my mind with sleep deprivation this is what I do...

Breakfast for the kids = time for me to get my to do list situated. I like to sit with my cup of coffee and discuss the things I have to get done with my kiddos. I do this for multiple reasons, but mostly because they then feel involved in what is going on that day.

I try really hard to focus only on 1 thing for each area of my life. Those areas are: Housework, Cooking, Crafty Stuff, Homeschool, devotional time, and computer time. Of course reality sets in and there are usually more than one thing for each area. Then agree to work at least 20 minutes on each area...if I get in a groove and don't want to stop (because the kids are fabulous) I don't stop...but I set the timer for 20 minutes and go. Then I just bounce back and forth between the want to-do's & the have to-do's. I also carve out time in the evening (at least 1 hour every night) to either sew or knit. My husband is home to take care of the baby so that is a benefit.

I have really found that setting a timer for 15-20 minutes really helps me accomplish more because it is so bite-sized and even on the bad days I know my kids can handle 15 minutes on their own.

The only other thought I have is to remember the kind of person you are. I am very right brained and creatively organized, I have completely given up the hope of ever being neatly organized because it doesn't work for me. I can't keep my life in cubical's as everything overlaps like tomato sauce on spaghetti. The best method for you to organize is the one where you use your strength's and personality to your advantage.

Good luck. I hope this made a little sense. I know my method is really odd and probably only works for me...but it works.

  7. Great idea Buffy! I totally understand where you are coming from and try to do the same thing...but never thought of seperating the lists and using the timer. I love it! I'm going to give it a shot as I think it would help Mack know when I will finish too so she can know it's "mommy's time".

  8. All these years I passed on the vintage-vibe Pyrex at the thrift store because I had it in my mind that it had to match. Why did I ever think that? A new collection begins...

As far as organizing, I really appreciate what *Passionate Design* wrote. I don't use a timer, but I am mindful of doing things in little bits of time. Organizing a shelf here, knitting four rows there, making sure I get "be here now!" playtime with my little ones in between. I never expect to get anything done in one sitting; that takes the pressure off. Little bits of time, little bits...

And finally, a quote much like yours to share:

"You may be disappointed if you fail, but you are doomed if you don't try."
    --Beverly Sills, American opera singer

That one is framed on my desk. Helps a lot. I hold it true, because it is.

    Happy weekend to you!

  9. Oh - I can relate to the bathing suit issue! I haven't even got up the nerve to take my 20 month old son to swimming lessons because I haven't owned a bathing suit in more than 10 years. Yes I am probably the ONLY person who has travelled through Thailand and spent 1 year in Mexico and NEVER went to the beach once in either place. Why? Because I would have to wear a bathiing suit!! I know - It's time for me to just get over it and go out and purchase one. For the sake of my son - so he can learn how to swim - I have vowed to do it this year. (But not this month - not just yet.....)!
