moments in the mommyhood - xmas break

here's what we've been up to:

i've been loving my new fabric that i got from my mom/dad for xmas...

that will become a new quilt for my bed..

lots of walks near the ocean in the sunshine...

funny times at the park...

showing off new tights in a swing that may be a bit small...haha...

"it's a hoot" goodness that will become a quilt for little harper (ignore the wrinkles, haven't had time to beat down the ironing monster in our house to work out the creases)....

and needles working slowly to make a hat.

happy new year's to you all! i hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing christmas break and are as excited as i am for a fabulous 2011! yesterday was a weird day. it was strange to have the hubs go back to work. the house seemed so quiet and i think we were all reluctant to return to our old routine. i know i was. i wanted to hold onto our "family" time as long as i could and make the most of it. we had a great break and it definitely wasn't long enough.

we had lots of laughs, good food, family time, swimming, walks, movies, a lot of cleaning & purging (our condo seriously looked like a bad episode of hoarders until we were done the reorganization), a lot of "candyland" and "chutes and ladders" showdowns, first bike rides for mackenzie and of course, for me - starbucks. santa was so nice to put some gift cards in my stocking and you all know how much i can use those..haha. we also experienced the rath of a tired, over excited toddler, timeouts, tantrums, and lack of sleep too (let's be real folks, it's not all candy and roses in our house) but it was worth it. i'm sure you all had a bit of that in your homes as well and if you didn't i could use your tips..haha.

it sure felt good to pick up the needles and knit for fun at night. i've been so busy making xmas pressies that i'm making some things for the kiddos now. the hat is for harper and i'm making the "stella pixie hat" (on ravelry here). i'm loving this pattern - so fun! also that yummy layer cake and jelly roll from moda...yep, the dream on line i've been obsessing about for months was under the tree for me on xmas morning! mom - you're the best, love you! i cannot wait to make my first queen size quilt for my bed with this line! so excited! i'm also going to be doing a second quilt (smaller) for harper from one of my other fave lines from moda "it's a hoot". i love the colors and the bold prints, it will be perfect for my little bundle of giggles.

what have you all been up to? how were your holidays? did you get some good family time in? anyone sad/happy to have the routine back? i missed you all ...let's chat :)

p.s. to those of you i owe emails to, i'm sorry, i'm slowly catching up. i really tried hard to unplug a lot during the holidays and part of that was letting the inbox get a bit out of control..haha. hopefully i'll be getting back to you all sooner than later. thx for understanding.

  2. I know what you mean about watching Daddy go back to work - so sad! Definitely not ready for the routine yet. And even more sad as you start to take down Christmas decorations, everything just looks so barren all of a sudden :(

  3. I'm happy you are back! I saved the best blog to read for last this am:)
Um I was happy to put away Christmas and organize stuff! Love the clean open feeling !! I too have been organizing and scrubbing:)
As for Daddy back at work we only had a few days at Christmas and a few days at New years... Yeah for long weekends! But I think introverted me was happy for the calm and routine again.. yet I wish daddy was home some moments... Mixed feelings I guess... I do like sitting still though.. Our daddy here is go-go-go... Great for cleaning but not great when mommy just wants to air. So daddy working is good:)
The boys were amazingly good over the holidays... Thank goodness Josh is mellow and no fits really by either. Idyn HAS to do everything on his own but he's almost two;)
Yup good calm quiet holidays and happy quiet back to routine.. Life is peaceful:) ok untilthe boys fight over toys;)
    Miss you!!!!!

  5. That picture of Mac made me grin when it showed up in my facebook feed. Nicole wanted to climb into one of those this fall and I was like, "No way, hun. I don't think I could get you back out on my own with this baby belly in the way." How embarassing would it be if I had to phone somebody to help me get my gigantic 3 yr old out of a baby swing, hahahaha.
I hear ya on the tantrums, Christmas was a hoot but MAN OH MAN, you let go of those routines for a bit and your kid grows this little horns that pop out every five minutes. Finally got her back on schedule and her and my mom give me these puppy dog eyes yesterday evening over the possibility of Nicole sleeping over there. I caved - how often does my mom give me puppy dog eyes?! - but under the condition she still go to bed decently On Time.
Glad you had fun on Christmas and made the most of getting your hubby back from inside those textbooks! ;)

  6. Just peeked at the Stella hat and it's SO CUTE! Thought of making it for Olivia but I think I'll wait until she starts using her neck a little more, right now the hat would just work like a push-up bra for her many chins ;)

  9. Anna - Yep, I tried to be a good girl :P

Teresa - Thanks hun! Hope we get to see you soon when your mom pops by this month!

Laura - You crack me up girl. Yes, waiting for the rolls to go away under the chin would be a good idea. Mine is just at the point I could get a chin strap on her and see it..haha. Glad you can relate on the "xmas tantrums".

Krystal - Glad you guys had a peaceful and fun holidays! Sounds nice.

Fabricaholic - I'm on day two of the hubs back at work and it sucks. You're right, the decorations are down, the routine is back and the magic of xmas is over. I miss it already.

  10. I am sooooo glad that the holidays are over! With all of the traveling, and different people, and being off our schedule - our 1 1/2 year old didn't provide me with much of a vacation. I wish I could jump back into sewing, but I've got to finish my studio first. Lots of remodeling in my future!

  11. It is a little sweet for the Holidays to be over. I do miss them, but am happy to have some normality back.

From your pics, it looks like you and your family enjoyed the holidays as well as your break from blogging. Glad to have you back!!!!!

  13. Our Christmas and New Years was very simple but memorable: a few pretty lights, a few poinsettia garlands, and lots of delicious food for our Korean-food Christmas dinner. There still heaps of goodies to be consumed - score! Tantrums were at a minimum thank the Lord, but when they happpened - WHOOF! Not fun. As much as it pains us to have Appa return to work, I am glad the girls and I are back to our routine somewhat. Noelle is singing "Shingle Bells" at the moment, the sun is shining, I'm noshing on coffee and gingersnaps, and the little one is sleeping peacefully (although she has a sniffle). mmmm coffeee
