we've been snowed in most of the week here. well, snowed in may be a bit of an exaggeration, let's just say, we haven't been able to go out much due to the snow and our city trying really hard to deal with it (or not deal with it). i dislike snow. i might actually hate it. i don't like cold weather. in my daydreams i do. i dream that i can ski with the best of them (i'm scared of skiing due to being a klutz), sip hot cocoa by the fire gracefully (i always spill and have no fire), wear the most fabulous knit sweater and accessories (i look like a fluffy lamb), and sport that gorgeous fresh cheek glow (i get wind burn). so you see, snow and i don't get along. i slip, i fall, i get really cold and can't get warm again. i hate driving in it, i hate others driving in it. i hate cleaning off the car and warming up the engine. i hate wind chill and freezing rain. i will admit though that i love seeing my daughter love snow and won't take that away from her - i just let the hubs take her out in it instead. i also enjoy catching snowflakes on my tongue and making the odd snow angel and ok, getting in a snowball fight. unfortunately though, with all good comes some bad and with snow, well, i'm just done with the bad. i grew up in small town filled with a lot of snow for half the year and...yep, i'm done.
this week has been way more productive for me sewing wise. i got a few things finished and may just make my deadline for mail outs for handmade goodies. i'm crossing my fingers. i hope to get a lot more done this weekend, catch up with a good friend, cuddle up with the family and watch disney's "a christmas carol" with jim carrey, find my anne of green gables dvd, decide which stocking to make harper and work on the surprises i have coming for you all on the blog. what are you guys up to?
any of you have a love/hate relationship with snow? i hope i'm not the only one. fill me in on your plans? what are you making for xmas pressies this year? wishing you a fabulous, no snow filled weekend!

It seems my friend that you and I share the same disgust for winter :)
ReplyDeleteWe don't have any snow here in Toronto yet, but as I look at the window at the deep grey skies and howling winds, I know it's iminent.
Hang in there, let's weather it together :)
Love those felt pinecones, and it's definately true that life isn't easy, but oh so totally worth it!
warm hugs
xoxoxoxox
I love the movie, Anne of Green Gables! One of my favorites that I can relate to. Plus, I love that time period... the lace decor, the clothes, the simplicity of life, ect.
ReplyDeleteSorry I don't share your hate of snow.. Even having grown up in Saskatchewan where -20 is normal and -40 windchills happen often.. I don't miss that cold...so cold your eyelashes freeze shut... But I don't mind the snow or weather here!!! As I watched the snow fall yesterday all I could do was stare at the BEAUTY! Covered trees so pretty!! The snow is a gift here, not something we get often. I choose optimism. See the beauty. Watch the children's joy:) Try to love life no matter what it brings:)
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the snow, but mostly because snow on the west coast is sloppy... oh yeah, and because nobody knows what to do! Ack! But it's all melting this morning, yay!
ReplyDeleteThose felted pinecones are adorable!! Great collection!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE SNOW! The only thing I hate about snow is when the BROWN season arrives (some people call it spring) and the snow is dirty and melting.
ReplyDelete@Laurie AnneAwww, so sweet of you Laurie, yes, let's weather it together! You hang in there too...seems like ours may have slowed down..for now :P
ReplyDeleteBecki - Me too. When I was younger I wanted to live during that time and daydreamed about it all the time. I love those books.
ReplyDeleteRachel - Ours is mostly sloppy, mushy and brown here too. There are a few nice days of snow but then it's just gross. I wish for you fluffy snow.
CJ - yeah, that season with that kind of snow is yucky. I agree.
Chrissy - I know! I love those pinecones. i wonder how long they would take to make?
Krystal - HA! I'm not sure where you are writing this from, but I think that it's not Victoria..haha, maybe Saanich was prettier?? Also, I'm not choosing to be pessimistic or optimistic, just realistic. I was just making a statment that with good also comes bad and the bad parts of snow outweigh the good for me.
I don't know if I'd love snow but I'd love to see it at least once, maybe I should put that on my bucket list...
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the top down knitting book, I've already got it on my Amazon wishlist, I was surprised at how many of the patterns I liked and would actually wear myself.
I have the Anne of Greengables series and my kids refuse to watch it with me...LOVE that someone else loves it as much as I do.... :)
ReplyDeleteThe felted ribbons are so cute! I remember watching Anne of Green Gables with my mom and sister and loving it =) And how you feel about snow, well that's how I feel about cold weather when it doesn't snow. I just don't see the point!
ReplyDeletei am from a small town tucked away in the mountains- big bear lake, ca.. we are about an hour away from big department stores like target joann's, walmart.... we get snowed in all the time! as much as love the beauty of the snow it gets soooo hard!!
ReplyDeleteOh man, I totally love/hate snow. I love that when it snows my house feels warmer and is definitely brighter as the light bounces off the bright white snow. I love snow falling down all pretty. I love clean white landscapes. Notice how all of these things involve snow without involving me?
ReplyDeleteI hate when the tree in front of my house gets heavy with snow and I walk into a branch in the dark and it kindly dumps snow directly down either the back of my jacket or into my décolletage. I hate cold puddles in the house when people try to sneak in to just grab something without removing boots. I hate the extra half hour it takes to get ready to go anywhere. I hate the extra half hour it takes to DRIVE anywhere. I hate the sound of the ABS while I pray that nobody drives into me while my nice hearty SUV turns into a giant toboggan on a patch of snow over a patch of ice at a busy intersection. (nobody did, thankfully the people who had just gotten the green decided to wait and see if I could stop.)
BUT ITS REALLY PRETTY FROM INSIDE. And yes, my three year old loves it and her grandpa is building her a giant sled run and I can watch from inside and try not to spread my grinchiness for outdoors.
Okay, so since I really want one of those felted bows (& the pinecone too) I did a search of the internet...I found it and just had to share. Hope you don't mind :)

There is a link on this page to her tutorial. I'm gonna try and make them today with the kids. Wish me luck ;)

I love how the snow and ice looks outside when my kids and I are awake at 5am before anyone else and it is still a pristine and lovely glittering blanket of white. (streetlights make the best snow sparkle so it really looks magical before and right at dawn)I hate to be out in it. I do not like the cold. I never have and I probably never will! I think I was meant to hibernate through winter.
ReplyDelete@Molly
ReplyDeleteOh, I am knitting my son's Christmas stocking and sewing up a felt toy storm and trying to get a bounty of mug rugs quilted for teacher gifts.
Feel free to send your snow my way. I love, LOVE snow and winter, and hate hot and summer. Shall we exchange? ;)
ReplyDeleteeLBie - Yay! Another Anne of Green Gables fan! Love it!
ReplyDeleteBarneyn - That's rough, but it also sounds gorgeous!! I can only imagine the amount of work that that kind of snow brings..yuck.
Molly - hahaha, my hubby always says he's going to buy me a heat rock for the winter, I'm always freezing. Thanks for sharing what you're working on as well.
Megan - For sure. I'm open to exchange without a doubt...haha. Love the quilts you've been making - gorgeous!
Oh, Anne of Green Gables!! One of my favorites movies/books in the world! How I longed for "puff sleeves" when I first saw that movie.
ReplyDeleteI made some of those adorable felt bows yesterday! I also attached some curler clips to the back of them so that whoever I gave them to could keep them and reuse them! Thank you for letting me stumble upon your blog and sharing your ideas with us!
ReplyDelete@Alisa How did they turn out? Was it easy? any pics?
