i'm super excited for this post! i've been meaning to do this roundup during my whole pregnancy and now since i am a month away from little beans arrival i figured I better get on it. i spent a lot of time hunting down maternity tutorials during the last 8 months, but never got around to finding the energy to make any of them. boo for me but good for you guys.

There are some great links here, but it's a little late for me to make any maternity clothes, I'm at 37 weeks.
ReplyDeleteI did find this quick and easy tutorial for making nursing tops using t shirts: http://www.sleepingbaby.net/jan/Baby/shirt.html it looks easy enough and t shirts are inexpensive and comfy and you can always alter the sleeves, add designs, ruffles, etc. to cute them up a bit!
i love this! im also at 30 weeks, and carrying differently this time around so several of my old favorites from the first pregnancy dont fit! im going to look at everything and im sure something will jump out as a new favorite. :)

ReplyDeleteI'm due in 8 weeks, so there is almost no chance I'm going to be sewing maternity clothes at this point (when my mat leave starts, it's yoga pants all the way, baby!). But I'm marking this for the next preggo! =)
I wish I found this post 4 months ago! I only have 2 weeks left. I turned two pairs of pants into mat pants and another pair into a really funky denim skirt ... but the best was my jersey full-length brown dress that I wore to My husbands work party in January and it still fit great for my work's Annual General Meeting at the end of March!

a word about belly bands ... go to the second hand shop, find some stretchy t-shirts that you like the colour of, cut it off at the armpits and hem the top closed (you might have to hem a little at each side depending on how close to the armpits you have cut) ... voila! belly band in any colours you like!

I have a question though, when you sew on fabric, you need to lock in your stitches at the beginning and end of your row by reversing. I don't see this on the cards I've seen with sewing on them. How do you keep it from unraveling if you don't lock them in like this?

ReplyDeleteI have to admit that the bikini panties were best for me. While I'd been known to go commando before pregnancy, I preferred wearing a panty liner towards the end of pregnancy. So that meant I had to wear underwear. The bikini panties didn't roll down and held up just fine as long as they had a thicker edge at the top.
