knitting in the mommyhood - baby pattern books

let the nesting begin! i thought i would share which books i've been busy scanning pages from and borrowing from the library to get some knitting projects on the go for the new little bean. not sure why, but it's been a lot easier to knit lately than sew. a comfort thing i guess, as in that "i'm feeling too huge to sit in front of the sewing machine for long periods of time, need to beach myself on the couch, wool in hand, feet propped, needles moving, project runway on tv kind of comfort mode" (also the amount of wool in my stash that i found in my storage room to burn through could be a factor).

i've got a huge list of books i'm trying to get my hands on, but my local library sucks! i know they have budget cuts but they are sorely lacking in the handmade department for new and current reading. it's horrible! if i tried to buy all the books i was looking for i would be as broke as our public library system, so no go for me. i keep holding out hope they will eventually get a few in and in the meantime i just scour ravelry for my go to projects (i've got one almost done i'll show you all soon).

i know not everyone is a member on ravelry, but if you knit/crochet or are looking to learn please join! it's free and so much fun! you won't regret it. it's dangerous though, i log on there and the next thing i know it's 2 hours later, my fave folder is bursting, my daughter's whining for me and my hubby is begging me to get off the computer...dangerous...dangerous thing that ravelry. so in the meantime here's some good ol' books to hold in your hands, yes, i still love to do that. so get reading and of course, knitting!

  1. You might want to take a look on garnstudio.com, so many free patterns online, I love this site!

  2. Check out the Itty Bitty books by Susan B. Anderson - knitted toys, clothes, and fun stuff like pacifier holders and mobiles. Awesome books - I'm working on a few projects from them for my one week old, as well as my 14 mo. old. Another favorite is Knitting for Baby by Melanie Falick. Have fun!!
BTW, I totally understand the whole nesting=knitting thing! I just came off a month-long obsessive knitting marathon before my babe arrived!

  3. Sandra - Garnstudio has a great selection of patterns, I try not to go there too often as it's almost as bad as ravelry for me...haha.

Erin - Thanks for the tips! I haven't read either of those and will have to add them to my list! Congrats on the new baby, she's gorgeous! Here I am scared to have a new baby with an almost 3 year old running around and you have a new one with a 14mth old! Eeek!!!! I bow down to you.

  4. As soon as I saw the title of this post, I thought I have to comment and point you towards Kristen Rengren's "Vintage Baby Knits" but I was happy to find you already have it in there! : ) This book made me go crazy for baby sweaters (I had never made any before), I'm working on my second one right now and seeking out babies to give the completed projects to... : )
Will definitely be saving this post to my favorites to refer back to for other great baby books - thank you!

  6. Ok ladies, here's one for you....I'm making this sweater at the moment and it's done except for the seaming. Anyone know how to seam this up to make it looks seamless? I've tried about 20 times (no joke) and it looks horrible! Eek! I appreciate any tips before I stash the whole thing.

  7. I just recently got Baby Beanies (Amanda Keeys) out from the library, and there are a lot of cute hat patterns. I rarely find books like this one with SO MANY patterns I actually want to make...curse they're all hats.

  8. I can't wait to visit the two sites mentioned here. The beginning of a knitting addiction? I hope so!
